Code of the Sith
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.
—The Sith Code

The Force shall free me.
—The Sith Code
Following the embrace of passion, which was believed to be a powerful aspect of nature, the sith explain that the strength granted by passion leads to power, which then leads to victory. By way of victory, the Sith believe they could free themselves from the limitations of regular beings, and achieve their potential. Neophyte Sith believe that the breaking of chains represented the ability to do whatever one wished, however more seasoned members of the Order recognized that the true meaning of freedom was the end of all physical restrictions and the ability to attain perfection. The Sith believed that the only being who could truly live up to the code and attain freedom was the Sith'ari, and as such saw it as a guideline by which to live, not a law to abide by.
